The National Europass Centre Italy (NEC), which is part of ISFOL (the Institute for Development of Vocational Training), was set up following approval of Decision 2241/2004/EC of the European Parliament and the Council, establishing a single EU framework for the transparency of qualifications and competences.

NEC Italy is part of an European network of National Europass Centres coordinated by the DG for Education and Culture of the European Commission, with the support of CEDEFOP.

The NEC coordinates all the activities linked to the application of the Europass portfolio, and ensures that Europass documents are accessible to all citizens and are issued in compliance with the resolution and national provisions.

The NEC also performs information and promotional activities aimed at the wider public and at key players in the education, training and employment sectors. In order to be effective, Europass documents must be socially recognised, and this is why NEC Italy works towards heightening the awareness of the key players interested in making their potential and use known. Europass must be disseminated over the whole of Italy, and particularly to employers, vocational guidance officers and school staff.

NEC Italy is also responsible for issuing the Europass-Mobility document. It deals with the issue procedure, checking the standards required and performing final quality control on documents compiled by the competent bodies.
NEC Italy does not deal with bringing together supply and demand in the job market, and does not have a database for the collection of job requests, CVs or European Language Passports. Nor does it fund mobility projects.
In performing its work, the NEC liaises with:
The National Reference Point for transparency, the NARIC/ENIC network set up in Italy at the Cimea-Fondazione Rui, which provides information and assistance for the recognition of academic qualifications, and the National Resources Centre for Vocational Guidance, which is part of the European Euroguidance network coordinating a network of careers facilities and experts in Italy.
